Young Indians v West Indies A - 3 day First Class match 1991/2 - West Indies A, Young Indians 2nd Innings

Young Indians v West Indies A - 3 day First Class match 1991/2 - Ahmedabad

West Indies A sratched together 104/5 in their second innings, before declaring and setting the Young Indians 216 to win off a minimum of 58 on an uneven and turning pitch.
They appeared favourites at that stage, with conditions overwhelmingly in favour of the bowlers.
Ragoonath made 27, and Reifer 43, before the declaration on the stroke of Lunch allowed the bowlers to get to work.
A patient opening partnership between a solid Sanjay Bangar 26, and an increasingly fluent V.V.S.Laxman 79 threatened take the game away from the visitors and seemed to be setting up a home victory.
With the pitch now overwhelmingly helping the spinners, West Indies A captain Holder introduced legspinners Lewis and Chanderpaul for long spells.
At first it didn't work, but soon enough wickets began to tumble, and with both bowlers claiming 3 wickets, the Young Indians were 6 wickets down.
With 7 offers to go and 4 wickets in hand and the spinners creating immense pressure on a turning pitch, the home team were happy to accept an offer for bad light which allowed them to escape with a draw.
Man of the Match was Rahul Dravid, his unbeaten knocks in both innings probably the difference between a draw and defeat for the home team.
