West Indies won the toss and batted first on a good batting wicket for the first T20 of their tour.
Openers Haynes and Simmons raised 47 in the 6th over, before a big hitting 20 in 10 balls from captain Richardson had them in a position of some strength.
The loss of 3 wickets on 83 to spinners Asoka de Silva and Sanath Jayasuriya, including Logie and Hooper for ducks, left West Indies 83/5 and in some trouble.
Lara however was still there, and he cruised to an unbeaten 53* in 42 balls to continue his superb form on tour, again reaching at least a half century.
Keeper Williams and allrounder Winston Benjamin gave handy support, and West Indies totalled 154/6 from their 20 overs and were confident at that point.
Sri Lanka A lost Samarasekera in Walsh's 1st over, but Atapattu and Hathurasingha put the home team on course in an aggressive partnership.
Captain Hashan Tillakaratne, brilliant earlier in the field with 4 catches, then took over, stroking his way to a brilliant unbeaten 54* in 29 balls with 12 fours to give his side victory.
He duly won the Man of the Match award, as Sri Lanka A handed West Indies their first loss of the tour, by 4 wickets with 2.2 overs to spare.
Phil Simmons took 3-23 for West Indies to threaten a close finish, but Tillakaratne, and a couple of big hits from seamer Labrooy saw the home team across the line.
