India A v West Indies A - 3rd Unofficial One Day International 1991/2 - Match Report

India A v West Indies A - 3rd Unofficial One Day International 1991/2 - Calcutta

Pitch: 3 - Normal

Weather: 3 - Hot and sunny

Toss: West Indies A

West Indies A won the toss and elected to bat first, hoping for an improvement from their batsmen over previous matches in the series.
Wallace fell cheaply, and after some aggressive shots Ragoonath quickly followed.
When Holder and Arthurton fell cheaply as well, West Indies A were in a hole at 50/4, after 3 early wickets to seamer Venkatesh Prasad.
Left arm spinner Sunil Joshi pulled a muscle in the outfield around this point, leaving the field and leaving India A a bowler short, but being well on top at the time, and with 20 overs from Kapoor and Venkataramana in trouble, India A didn't feel the loss too badly at the time.
An excellent 69 from Chanderpaul allowed West Indies A to recover, and with handy support from the Reifer, Browne, and Perry, they made 189 all out of the final ball of their 50 overs.
It left them with a chance, considering the strength of their attack, but was still short of par.
Prasad took 4 wickets to continue his good form in the limited overs games.
India A began their reply badly, Rose putting West Indies A on top by having Laxman caught, and then knocking Mongia's off stump out of the ground in his next over.
This left India A 25/2 off 9.1 overs and West Indies A well in the game.
Dravid and Kambli quickly followed, and allrounder Robin Singh fell as well, India A were in a hole at 65/5 after 24.4 overs, requiring a further 125 to win off 25.2 overs at close to 5 per over.
After scoring at 2.5 per over for the majority of their innings so far, it didn't look likely.
A brilliant 67 by Gursharan Singh, and a steady 40 from allrounder A.Kapoor put India A back on course, with their partnership of 115 for the 6th wicket in 20.4 overs being a match turner.
Some streaky hitting by Chetan Sharma and Venkataramana, batting ahead of the injured Joshi, finished things off, handing India A a 3 wicket win with 10 balls to spare, allowing them to win the series 3-0, with 2 games to spare.
Man of the Match was seamer Venkatesh Prasad, his 4 wickets allowing India A to bowl their opponents out and set what turned out a fairly comfortable chase, albeit after a difficult chance.
India A now have an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the series.
