Young Indians v West Indies A - 3 day First Class match 1991/2 - Match Preview

Young Indians v West Indies A - 3 day First Class match 1991/2 - Ahmedabad

Pitch: 98 - An interesting wicket, multicoloured and patchy. The groundsman refuses to predict how long it will last, it is likely to favour the bowlers at some stage of the match. Most likely it will be the  spinners who benefit most, perhaps as early as the third day.

Young Indian XI:

V.V.S.Laxman
S.B.Bangar RM
S.V.Manjrekar
S.R.Tendulkar (c) LBG
R.S.Dravid
V.Dahiya (wk)
S.K.Sharma RM
A.Kuruvilla RFM
R.K.Chauhan OB
N.D.Hirwani LBG
B.K.V.Prasad RMF

West Indies A XI:

S.Ragoonath
S.L.Campbell
D.R.E.Joseph
R.I.C.Holder (c)
F.L.Reifer
S.Chanderpaul LBG
R.D.Jacobs (wk)
R.N.Lewis LBG
A.C.Cummins RFM
F.A.Rose RF
C.E.Cuffy

West Indies A called up 4 players to reinforce their squad, rushing them into their XI, and swelling the number of players on tour to 22.
Given the length of tour it was probably expected the selectors would send for reinforcements at some stage, but the number of players added might have suprised a few.
Young opener Sherwin Campbell, legspinner Rawl Lewis, and fast bowler Franklyn Rose and Cameron Cuffy reinforce the squad and play their first games of the tour.
It's an important game for Lewis in particular, given the ordinary form of the other spinners in the squad so far, a good performance here could catapault him into the Unofficial International series.
Young Indians named a strong squad, with Bombay Test batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Sanjay Manjrekar completing a strong top order.
Spinners Rajesh Chauhan and Narendra Hirwani will be looking for strong games in the spinning conditions to possibly force their way into the A team and Test lineup.
A hard match to pick this one, with the toss being important, and West Indies A probably strengthened by the changes.
