New Zealand A v England - 50 over List A match 1991/2 - Match Report

New Zealand A v England - 50 over List A match 1991/2 - Hamilton

Pitch: 3 - Normal

Weather: 3 - Hot and sunny

Toss: New Zealand A

New Zealand A won the toss, and with conditions good for cricket, elected to put a score on the board.
The openers raised 47 in a solid start, before Hartland departed, bringing in Greatbatch to join experienced opener Franklin.
Playing one of his best limited overs innings, Franklin cruised to 82 to lay the foundations for a big total.
With Greatbatch making 61, and Latham and Thomson providing the finishing touches, New Zealand A totalled 242/6 from their 50 overs, and would have been happy at the halfway point.
The England bowlers were disappointing, with Malcolm coming back well late in the innings, and Emburey with a tight 10 over spell the pick.
In reply England were given an excellent start by the in form Atherton and Gooch.
When Atherton fell for 64, the pair had put on 146 for the 1st wicket and England were well on course.
After reaching a sedate 50 off 92 balls, Gooch added another 66 off 45, and when he was eventually out for 116 the match was all but over in England's favour.
Fairbrother gained some form and valuable time in the middle to see England across the line for a 6 wicket victory with 4.3 overs to spare.
Thomson had bowled well to take 3-42, but his wickets came too late to make a difference.
Gooch was named Man of the Match, his innings all but deciding the match.

England won by 6 wickets
