Australia have chosen a strong squad, but sprung a major suprise by dropping keeper Ian Healy from the tour squad altogether after a poor tour of the West Indies.
Healy was averaging 21.47 with the bat with just 3 fifties and a top score of 69 in 31 Tests as of September 1991, and selectors felt it was time for a change.
Tim Zoehrer, 10 Tests, batting average 20.50, 1 fifty, highest of 52* was seen as the better player of the two and given the chance to establish himself.
Other changes from the tour of West Indies saw middle order batsman Dean Jones dropped from the squad, and seamer Merv Hughes relegated to A duty admit questions about his fitness and attitude.
On paper Australia appear much too strong for their opponents, though Zimbabwe occasionally spring a surprise in their home conditions.
The squad has some similarities to the World Cup winning squad of 1987/8, and maybe this entered selectors minds as Australia prepare for a defence of their title on home soil later in the summer.
Zimbabwe will be well lead by Dave Houghton, and appear strongest in batting, with veterans Andy Pycroft, Kevin Arnott, and Andy Waller, supporting the Flower brothers.
