India A v West Indies A - 4th Unofficial One Day International 1991/2 - Match Report

India A v West Indies A - 4th Unofficial One Day International `1991/2 - Ahmedabad

Pitch: 4 - Normal

Weather: 7 - Sunny, some cloud about

Toss: West Indies A

West Indies A won the toss and batted first, a new pair of openers making no difference, Williams and Samuels both failing upon their returnm and Holder at 4 falling for a duck.
The selection of seamer Subroto Banerjee for his first game of the series in place of Chetan Sharma proved to be a good move, the bowler taking 3 wickets in his opening spell to leave West Indies A 25/3.
Dave Joseph contributed a few big hits in 46 to steady the innings, before Arthurton took over to make 85 from 101 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes.
With Drakes hitting out at the end, West Indies A totalled 225/9 from their 50 overs, their highest 50 over score of the tour.
Banerjee and Joshi both claimed 3 wickets, but the India A attack were generally too expensive in their worst collective performance of the series.
India A lost their openers cheaply in reply, and when Dravid fell after an entertaining 30 off 18 balls, the home team found themselves 44/3 and in deep trouble chasing for the 2nd game running.
Kambli and Ganguly put India A back on top with batting of the highest class, the pair adding 127 off 19.5 overs to leave India requiring just 55 of  the final 25.1 overs.
Man of the Match Ganguly cruised to an unbeaten 90* off 82 balls without ever having to reach top gear, his best batting of an injury disrupted series to take his team to the win.
Bangar batted well at the other end, and India A cruised home to win by 6 wickets with a massive 14 overs to spare.
Scoring at over 6 runs per over throughout their innings, India A in form like this could have chased down 300, such was their batting dominance.
Though West Indies A were missing pace leader Gray through injury, the other bowlers were wayward in another ill discliplined performance and West Indies A again shelled chances in the field.
India A take a 4-0 lead in the series, with one match to play before the First Class matches resume, the West Indies A side are hoping to at least avoid a whitewash in the final match.
