New Zealand A v England A - 3 day First Class match 1991/2 - Dunedin
Pitch: 70
Toss: England
An entertaining match, featuring a number of excellent performances, finished in a draw, though the crowd were mostly entertained by what they saw.
Some good middle order batting allowed New Zealand A from the loss of both openers for ducks in their 1st innings, while a century to Mike Atherton set up an England declaration.
Some good spin bowling by veteran John Emburey was the feature of the New Zealand A 2nd innings, before a declaration saw England set 200 off 43 overs to win on a wearing pitch.
England easily batted out time to leave the match drawn.
Man of the Match was Mike Atherton, his first innings century being the best batting of a match in which the bowlers generally had a good time of it.

New Zealand A v England - 3 day First Class match 1991/2 - England 2nd Innings
New Zealand A v England - 3 day First Class match 1991/2 - Dunedin
England never really looked like attempting a target of 200 in 43 overs, and the loss of a couple of wickets forced them merely to bat out time.
Most of the batsmen found form, with Gooch making a solid half century, and the others all getting starts.
Botham entertained the crowd for a while in an unbeaten 40* as England rejigged their batting order, but it was too little too late and the match was drawn.
It was a disappointing end to what was an entertaining match featuring a number of excellent performances.
Mike Atherton was named Man of the Match for his first innings century, an innings that gives him the inside running for a Test spot later in the tour.

New Zealand A v England - 3 day First Class match 1991/2 - England 1st Innings
England lost a couple of early wickets in their reply, but an unbeaten century to young opener Atherton on his 1st tour, and 72 to the experienced Allan Lamb restored order.
England declared as soon as Atherton scored his century, hoping a declaration could set up an exciting finish.
Seamer Willy Watson claimed 4-40 in an excellent display of seam bowling, but received little support.
New Zealand A took a lead of 76 into the 2nd innings, hoping for quick runs to set up a declaration on a wearing pitch.

New Zealand A v England - 3 day First Class match 1991/2 - Dunedin
Toss: England
England won the toss, and with bounce expected to be Uneven for at least the 1st session, elected to bowl first.
It immediately paid dividends, with opening bowlers Malcolm and Lawrence dismissing the openers for ducks.
Greatbatch 40 and Rutherford dug in for a while, the captain steadying the innings with a solid 59.
Thomson 79* took over upon his dismissal, adding important runs with Sua 49 to take New Zealand A to a solid first innings total.
Gooch picked up 3-13, but the opening bowlers and offspinner Emburey did most of the work in dismissing the home team for a moderate score.
Having chewed up a lot of time with their innings after wanting to make the most of decent batting conditions on a pitch which flattened out, New Zealand A probably require a monumental England collapse to obtain victory.

England named a close to Test strength XI for their opening warmup game versus a competent but not overly talented New Zealand A side.
Interestingly England have played both genuine Fast bowlers, with genuine pace a weapon New Zealand seem to lack going into the series ahead.
It should be a good hitout for the England players, with conditions expected to be much the same for the Test series later in the tour..

England tour New Zealand in 1991/2 for a full Test, ODI, and T20 tour, featuring a number of warmup games.
England have named a strong squad, with veteran opener Graeme Gooch still at the peak of his powers, and youngsters like Mike Atherton and Alec Stewart in position to establish themselves.
New Zealand look more solid in batting than bowling, with their allrounders giving the team depth, though the retirement of Richard Hadlee has left them short of an attack leader.
It should be a close series, with New Zealand always strong in home conditions, though England's bowling probably gives them the edge.

There are plenty of runs to be had at Basin Reserve, Wellington, the quick bowlers may find a little help on the first morning and the spinners, perhaps, on the fourth and fifth days. It’s a similar story at Eden Park Auckland, early help for the fast bowlers but generally a good batting track. Spinners are less catered for here, although the wicket has been known to crumble in the later stages. At Christchurch again the seamers may enjoy the opening session but the wicket is slower paced and batting that much easier. The wicket does help the spinners late on. Bowlers generally have better prospects on the final day than earlier in the match. Dunedin is a happy hunting ground for batsmen, very little in it for the bowlers unlike Hamilton which often favours the seamers early on and the spinners from day 3 onwards. Usually Napier pitches are a little lively on the first morning, good batting tracks thereafter until the final day when the spinners begin to turn the ball. Just occasionally the wicket produced is a shocker with help for the spinners right from the start and very difficult conditions for the batsmen.

South Africa A v Pakistan - T20 match 1991/2 - Pretoria
Pitch: 4 - Normal
Weather: 1 - Hot and humid - some assistance for swing bowlers
Toss: South Africa A
South Africa A won the toss, and mindful of the humid conditions, elected to bowl.
It backfired as a powerful innings of 80* from Inzamam-ul-Haq, promoted to number 3, propelled them to 174/6 from their 50 overs, probably a match winning score in these conditions.
Inzamam reached his 50 off 25 balls, and at one stage might have had thoughts of a hundred, but lost the strike a little in later overs.
With captain Imran contibuting 30, and a few others getting starts, Pakistan were never pressured.
None of the South Africa A bowlers stood out in a below par performance.
When South Africa A batted they were immediately in trouble, losing 4 early wickets to Wasim and Imran.
Cullinan threatened at late charge in making an entertaining half century, but with McMillan bogged down at the other end, the Pakistanis were never challenged.
Man of the Match was Inzamam-ul-Haq, his innings having set up a match winning total.

South Africa A named an unchanged XI for the T20 match at Pretoria, while Pakistan made a few changes to the batting lineup due to injuries.
Javed Miandad, Rameez Raja, Tauseef Ahmed, and the still unfit Aamer Sohail were all unavailable for selection for this game.
This is expected to make the result closer than the previous two games, with South Africa A possessing a number of class players.
The Humid conditions are expected to favour the seamers, but otherwise conditions should be good for batting.
