Toss: Zimbabwe Board XI
Zimbabwe Board XI won the toss, and with the pitch expected to possibly help the spinners late in the match, elected to bat first.
Openers Arnott and Shah laid the foundations in an opening stand of 73, before Shah took over and totally dominated.
In amazing form for a man with a First Class average in the mid 20's, Shah feasted on a wayward attack, plundering a double century on the 1st day, with batting of the highest class.
In all he made 203 in 321 minutes of batting, off 291 balls, with 21 fours to all parts.
Aided by a powerful 88 from Waller, the Zimbabwe Board XI motored along at 4 an over for much of the day, and at Stumps were 366/4 after 92 overs of mostly brilliant batting.
Realising that enforcing the follow on was probably their greatest chance of achieving victory, the home side batted on til Lunch on Day 2, posting 480/5 declared.
Tufnell claimed 2 wickets for England A, but the attack failed to adhere to a bowl good line and length, and leaked too many 4 balls in a particularly poor performance.
A clearly grumpy captain Kim Barnett bowled himself for 14 overs as other more established bowlers failed to perform, taking a wicket, but like the rest, proving expensive.
