The India Under 23's XI openers got their team off to an excellent start adding 89 for the 1st wicket, before damage to the wicket at the Pavilion End after the tea break saw a collapse in which all 10 wickets fell for 112.
A total of 201 all out handed West Indies A a 101 run first innings lead, and left the Under 23's in danger of defeat.
Legspinner Rawl Lewis reaped the rewards of a damaged pitch to claim 6-40, though truth be told, anyone that could bowl a good length with any regularity would have been dangerous under the conditions.
With a lead of 101, West Indies A hoped for quick runs in their 2nd innings, before a declaration, hopefully leaving themselves enough time to take 10 wickets.
