Indian Board XI v West Indies A - 3 day First Class match 1991/2 - West Indies A 1st Innings report

Indian Board XI v West Indies A - 3 day First Class match - 1991/2 - Kanpur

West Indies A got off to a good start, scoring freely against the seamers early, with the openers putting on 56.
Wickets steadily fell to the spinners after that on a pitch which had improved to Normal after being slow on the first day, and the West Indies were eventually all out for a mediocre 211.
Left arm Joshi was the best of the spinners, having 4-40 at one stage, but tired after and finished with 4-70.
Offspinner Gopal Sharma grabbed a couple of late wickets to finish with 3-39, but was not as accurate generally and probably flattered by his figures.
The other 3 spinners all grabbed a wicket apiece.
For West Indies A, the batting of Shivnarine Chanderpaul was the only real bright spot, showing his tenacity to finish with 48* as the tail fell around him, an innings that West Indies fans would become familiar with throughout his future career.
With a lead of 85, the Indian Board XI would have been hoping for quick runs to set up a declaration and possible run chase.
